Details

A big welcome to Gdańsk Old Town and the seat of Cisterian Order in Oliwa

If you are interested not only in Gdańsk, but you would also like to get to know the history of Cistercian Order in Gdańsk – Oliwa, this offer is for you. The Cisterian monks were brought to this area during the rules of Pomeranian Princes in the 12th century. However, this place is mostly famous for its “moving” pipe organ, where artists who participate in International Organ Music Festival perform every year.

The group will meet with a guide who will show the tourists the city of Gdańsk. The walk starts from the so-called Royal Route, the most representative part of the city. The route starts from Długa Street. The first interesting monument is a tenement house, the Uphagen House. The guide will tell you who the Uphagen family was and the history of this place.

Then you can see the Gdańsk Main Town Hall. It is considered as one of the most outstanding buildings in northern Europe. Next, the group will be on the Long Market. Here is located the Neptune’s Fountain, a symbol of Gdańsk. Every tourist wants to take a souvenir photo with that Fountain. Behind it there is the Artus Court. A building with an interesting history. At present there is a branch of the Gdańsk History Museum.

From here it is only a step from Długie Pobrzeże. It is a beautiful promenade along the Motława River and there is also an old port crane. Afterwards a group will turn into St. Mary’s Street. The most charming place in the city! You can fall in love with the delightful decorations of tenement houses and amber exhibitions offering original jewellery. At the end of this street stands the impressive St. Mary’s Basilica.

Then we invite you to the metropolitan cathedral in the district of Gdansk, Oliwa. Since 2017 the building has had the status of a historical monument. The cathedral has a rich history and impressive decoration. One of the interesting facts is that it is the longest church in Poland. The place attracts many tourists from Poland and abroad. However, the cathedral is most famous for its pipe organ, which has 8000 pipes. We invite you to an organ concert which lasts 20 minutes. An interesting addition are the movable elements of the organ. There will be also some free time for a walk in the park next to the cathedral.
