PROGRAM

DAY 1

Meeting by the participants and drive to Augustów to the hotel. After a short rest, a walk around Augustów: building of the old post office, wooden manor house of General I. Prądzyński, museum of the history of the Augustów Canal. Dinner. Night at the hotel.

DAY 2

Breakfast. Trip to the Augustowski Canal – a unique monument of technology, and at the same time a great tourist attraction. A cruise along the Augustów – Studzieniczna route. Drive through the Augustów Primeval Forest through the towns of Głęboki Bród, Prącki (the road crosses the Czarna Hańcza River), Giby to the town of Sejny, where a short walk around the city is predicted. The visitors will see the post-Dominican church whose facade is a classic example of Vilnius baroque style. Drive to Lake Wigry, which is located in the Wigry National Park (in June 1999 Pope John Paul II rested at the Wigry lake during his seventh pilgrimage to Poland). A visit to Suwałki – a district town over the Czarna Hańcza river. Worth visiting are, among others the house where the famous Polish poet and writer Maria Konopnicka was born, 19th century town hall, cathedral, museum of history and tradition of soldiers of the Suwalki region. Free time. Drive to the Rospuda Valley – the area of protected landscape, which covers greater part of the valley. Return to the hotel, dinner.

DAY 3

After breakfast, return to the place of initial departure with short stops (and sightseeing) in the towns of Mikołajki, Olsztyn and Ostróda; Mikolajki – the tourist center the Masuria region – a walk around the center and along the Mikołajskie Lake. Visiting the Evangelical church. Olsztyn – the capital city of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. There are 11 lakes within the city limits. A walk around the Olsztyn Old Town: the Saint Jacob Cathedral, market square, old castle of the Warmia chapter, the old town hall, the High Gate. In Olsztyn, a lunch break after a walk. Ostróda – a walk along Lake Drwęckie. Pier. Teutonic castle.
