A day in Łeba where you can see the “Polish Sahara”

Łeba is a town located in the north of Poland in Pomeranian Voivodeship. It is a very lovely town of about 4 000 citizens. Every year thousands of tourists visit Łeba as it’s a beautiful holiday resort with a sea port and bathing beaches. There is no doubt that you will fall in love with golden sand, the Baltic Sea and idyllic atmosphere. However, when you google it, you will see that Łeba is most famous for its dunes. Walking between the dunes and climbing up at their tops is a necessary sightseeing point during your stay in Poland.

Słowiński National Park near Łeba protects the biggest area of moving dunes in Europe. The dunes reach 30-40 meters high and their speed of movement can be even 10 meters per year. It is a unique natural phenomenon. They are moved by the wind. Tiny grains of sand from tops of the hills are constantly changing their location. The highest of dunes is called Łącka Góra with over 40 meters high. From its top you can enjoy a beautiful view on the Łebsko Lake on one side and the Baltic Sea on the other side.

In the area of Łeba there are other places worth visiting. For example, there is the oldest house in Łeba at 86 Kościuszki Street. It has been built by a merchant Johann Mampego in 1723. Moreover, the archaeologists have found traces of the legendary Buried Town. The town was abandoned by its inhabitants in the 16^th century. Earlier, the stories about the Buried Town were treated just as a fairy tale. Now you can look at the history of this place from over 500 years ago!
